Yoga is a process of reestablishing a strong connection between the body and mind, to help reawaken and hone various powers of both. The practice of fluid movement and awareness of breath begins a process that helps support a healthy and pain-free body and clear mind.
With consistent practice, as we grow our awareness of our bodies, we understand our own postural habits and begin to establish proper alignment, which carries through all movement, on and off the mat.
We gradually take in and assess more information from the body/mind, amounting to a fuller and more realistic sense of ourselves.
In the process, we learn how even a gentle yoga practice promotes health overall, conditioning the musculoskeletal, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, cardiovascular, and nervous systems.
Through brief guided meditations and breath work (pranayama) we learn to initiate a calm and focused awareness, stay centered, and take that with us into everyday life.
